Brian started showing in Western Pleasure classes at AQHA Shows in 1995. That year he had his first top 10 at the Congress. As a youth, Brian was Reserve and earned many top 10 awards at the Congress. He also ventured into to the NSBA shows and was two time Whistle Stop Champion and Tom Powers Champion. In 2002 Brian was 7th in the limited 3 Year Old Class at Congress and 6th at the Youth World in Western Pleasure.

As a teen Brian was under the guidance of Ray Carmean for 3 years and Doug Pratt for 4 years. Both Ray and Doug were great inspirations for him. On Brian's 18th birthday, an opportunity of a life time happened. He traveled to Purcell, Oklahoma to assist Troy Compton at his training facility in Oklahoma. "Working side by side with Compton for 14 months was something I will never forget". Brian acknowledges the fact that, along with many other people in the industry, Compton was instrumental in shaping him into the trainer he is today.
